To share in this weekend’s celebration of the Queen’s 90th Birthday, our Lady Captain Clare Smith continued the royal theme with everyone dressing up in patriotic outfits to keep the fun going after the party in The Mall. The golf was a team event, played off a mixture of the red, blue and white tees – and in very challenging windy conditions everyone got to know what it felt like hitting off the back tees into the wind! Clare’s daughters took photos of all the teams, and on the par 3 8th hole there was more fund raising with a ‘beat the Captain and Lady Captain’s hubby’ challenge, with bubbly as the reward (lots of takers!) The winning team were Julia Dryden, Maggie Hawkins and Sandie Dearden, pictured with HRH.
With the clubhouse set up for a street party afterwards, 55 people sat down to a sumptuous meal fit for a Queen. Plenty of imagination in the outfits both on and off the course, the best team outfit prize went to Toni Harrison, Di Millard and Jill Moss. Clare was thrilled to announce that over £1100 was raised for her charity, Amaze - they help children with disabilities in Brighton and Hove. Clare sends a big thanks to everyone who helped to make it such a fun and memorable day.
